Cameo Replicas

Cameo Necklace - CN1
Persons of Royalty like Catherine the Great, Queen Elizabeth, and Queen Victoria favored cameos and had very impressive collection of them. They were popular as pins and pendants usually worn on a black velvet ribbon or even sometimes-pastel satin ribbons.

Cameo revels in beauty in its carvings.  Motifs included gods and goddesses from mythology and other subjecs, Bacchante maidens, the three Graces - Zeus' daughters, Leda, and a woman feeding Zues are amongst the examples of images carved in a cameo.

Before the Cameo is the Intaglio, a piece carved below the surface often used as a seal to letters or to even mark property during the Victorian Era.  Opposite Intaglio is the Cameo,  it is a portrait or scene carved in relief with a contrasting colored background. Skilled Artisans would use gemstones, seashells, stones, lave, coral, and even man made materials to carve on.
